Certificate in Youth Counselling

The Certificate in Youth Counselling part-time course is registered with the Committee for Private Education (CPE)

The course is organised and awarded by the Executive Counselling and Training Academy

This is a standalone course offers learners an opportunity to acquire and develop competencies to counsel youths (adolescents).

Topic 2: Micro-Skills in Youth Counselling

Topic 3: Interventions and Problem-Solving Skills in Youth Counselling

Topic 4: An Overview of Common Mental Health Conditions in Youth

Topic 5: Ethics and Legal Issues in Youth Counselling

Course Details

The course equips learners with competencies to provide mental and emotional support to youths (adolescents). It is suitable for participants already working in youth-oriented settings and communities as educators, para-counsellors, social workers, mentors, facilitators, administrators, etc, or those who wish to work in such settings and communities. The content covered will help learners better appreciate the psycho-emotional and psycho-social context of youth counselling, build rapport, facilitate problem-solving, and be aware of ethical and legal considerations when attending to this demographic.

Lectures in this part-time course are facilitated by experienced clinical practitioners registered with the Committee for Private Education.

Duration

This part-time course comprises 84 contact hours over the course of three months. Lectures are usually conducted two days per week: one weekday evening and occasionally a full Saturday. (Schedule may be subject to revision)

Course fee is payable in 3 instalments.

* A Fee Protection Scheme (“FPS”) premium amounting to 0.6% of the Course Fees and Administrative Fees (subject to a minimum premium of S$25.00) is included in the first instalment. (All fees and FPS premium rate stated above are inclusive of GST, and are subject to revision).

Application Fee

A non-refundable Application Fee of S$162.00 is payable.

• GCE ‘O’ Level Certificate or its equivalent, with a pass in English Language
• Proficient in verbal and written communication in English

Graduating Criteria

Students must fulfil the following requirements to earn the Certificate in Youth Counselling, awarded by the Executive Counselling and Training Academy:
1.  Complete and submit all assignments.
2.  Attend a minimum of 90% of contact hours.
